Urban Co-operative Credit Structure consists of Urban Co-operative Banks having banking license from the Reserve Bank of India, Primary Urban Credit Societies, Primary Women Credit Societies.
The registration and management related affairs and the loan recoveries, election of Board of Directors of these licensed Banks are regulated by the West Bengal Co-operative Act, 2006, whereas the banking related functions are governed by the provisions of Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (AACS).
Urban Co-operative Credit Structure, with the primary object of creating funds for lending money to its members, plays an important role as financial intermediaries in urban and semi-urban areas catering to the needs of the non-agricultural sector, particularly small borrowers. The Federation of Urban Co-operative Bank & Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. imparts necessary training and accords other necessary administrative support to its members in this structure.
